Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 Android 11 update with One UI 3.1 in Canada
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020) users in Canada woke up to a piece of pretty exciting news that their Galaxy Tab A 8.4 Android 11 update with One UI 3.1 skin this month. The news actually broke out when a renowned network service provider in Canada, Telus, posted the update schedule on their official website.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 was released with an Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box in March 2020 in the US. Telus is amongst the carriers for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 and it is famous for updating its users with the regular Android OS update schedule.
Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020) Android 11 with One UI 3.1
According to the latest Android update timeline on Telus, the carrier-locked Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 devices in Canada are set to receive the major/stable Android 11 update with One UI 3.1 on June 22 (expectedly). So, the Telus Galaxy Tab A 8.4 users in Canada can relish the chance to use One UI 3.1 based on Android 11 on their devices.
Although, there is a catch in the news as well. The statement below the update table is, “All dates are approximate and subject to change. Please note posted dates reflect when the update is released but can take a few weeks to roll out to all devices.”
The dates are only approximate and not accurate which makes it uncertain to say that the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 will definitely receive the major Android 11 update with One UI 3.1 this month. But, if the update goes as reported, it will be rolled out in phases which makes it available for a limited number of users at first. Hence, it won’t be available to all the carrier-locked Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 devices in Canada during the first rollout.
That being said, we hope that Telus actually roll out the update for its Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 users as per the schedule as the users are hoping to get the major Android 11 update for their Galaxy Tab A 8.4 devices. Then, the update can hit the other regions as well in the future.

Android OS | Release date | Estimated Months |
Android 9 Pie [Out-of-the-box] | March 2020 | Nil |
Android 10 [First OS Update] | September 2020 | 12 months |
Android 11 [Second/Last OS Update] | June 2021 (Rolling out) | 9 months |
How long will it get updates?
As mentioned earlier, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020) was released with an Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box. It received its first major OS update with Android 10 in September 2020. It is now set to receive its second major OS update with Android 11 based One UI 3.1 in June 2021, this month reportedly.
Since it will receive two major OS updates overall, the chances of a third major update are unlikely. It will probably continue to receive Security updates but it may also be concluded that it is not in line with the Android 12 update list and Android 11 should probably be the last major OS update on this device.
